The More Things Change…

The more they stay the same.

I took this photo of The Wee Little Miss and one of our chickens some time ago:

I took this photo today while we were working outside making some modifications to the rabbit hutch:

It’s nice to know some things don’t change, even when you feel like everything else is.

Thoughts and a Big Thanks to The Hubbster

Our family is going through a huge transitional time right now.  I’ll spare you all of the gory details, but over the past couple of years we have undergone a lot in the way of job changes between The Hubbster and me.  It’s been hugely stressful.

Things are finally moving forward in a positive direction, but it is requiring that we make some sacrifices that none of us particularly prefer — primarily, that The Hubbster has taken a fantastic job, but as a result has had to move about two and a half hours away from us during the week, returning home on the weekends.  It’s not a permanent situation; we will be back to “normal” (whatever that is) by this time next year.

I’ve had so many people recently ask me, “How on Earth are you guys managing that?”

It’s always odd when someone asks me that question.  How could we not manage it?  You do what must be done to get to where you want to be in life.  That’s what we are doing.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t love the situation by any stretch of the imagination.  But I DO love the idea of accomplishing our goals, and this temporary separation is the only way to do that.

I honestly don’t think it would be possible without clear goals in mind.  But we do have lofty goals that are becoming more attainable by the day.  A year from now, we will be closing on a property that will allow us to renovate our own home and start the fledgling beginnings of a bison ranch.  One small, tedious step at a time.  But we will get there, and all of it is because we are willing to make a short term sacrifice.

It’ll be such a relief to get out there and do what it is we want to do.  Such an indescribable relief.  Thanks for being willing to make the sacrifice, Hubbster.

Then we can be out there doing this!
